St. Margaret’s Co-operative Bowling Club was founded in 1990 at the Co-op Sports Ground in Birstall.
We have both Men's and Ladies sections and play our competitive games in the Leicestershire Bowling Association Leagues.
The Men's section consists of 56 members who play League bowls on Wednesdays and inter-club bowls on Saturday afternoon throughout the season when we field two sides of 4 or 5 rinks either home or away.
The Ladies section have 29 members and play competitive bowls on weekday
An Invitation
We would like to personally invite you to try the game of Lawn Bowls. Telephone, or call in to, St. Margaret’s Co-operative Bowls Club, and enquire how you can try the game of bowls. We will answer all your questions regarding the game, organise the loan of a set of bowls and
arrange for YOU to be taken out onto the green. The only criteria, is that you wear flat soled shoes so as not to damage the playing surface. You will be guided on how to place the mat at the beginning of play, how to hold the bowl or wood in your hand, how to stand on the mat, and how to deliver the bowl along the selected 'grass' line. All these aspects are important in learning a smooth and consistent delivery, one that will allow you to develop in the game of bowls. Further practice may be arranged, and you will be invited to join the club if you so desire.
People of all shapes and sizes, very young to the retired person, male and female enjoy this very relaxing and sometimes passionate sport.
